In case you missed it...

Some of you have met Remi Parmentier (the Nasty Little Agitator) through my blog. Here on Remi's blog are two photos taken of him with the same harpoon gun--32 years apart. (By the way, one of his friends suggested that Agitator General is a title more befitting his advanced status these days! ;o)

And here is a lovely story of a send-off by wild elephants, honoring conservationist Lawrence Anthony, who worked for many years to protect them.

And this astounding video of dolphins beaching themselves--and being saved by human beachgoers--all in under 4 minutes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekmMD8oYtJ0&feature=player_embedded

I'd posted these on my facebook page (www.facebook.com/PKLichen) but didn't want anyone to miss them!

  1. A lot of interesting links to click on in Remi's blog and the Vardas Group web site.

  2. Very interesting...is Remi one of the guys in your upcoming book???
The video of the dolphins rescued was amazing. Wonder why they beach themselves.  One student told me they think the cell phone towers, microwaves and such affect the dolphins.

  3. In the novel I do intend to have a Frenchman aboard a ship that escapes from Spain. The character is not supposed to *be* Remi, but might superficially resemble him. (Haven't written that part yet... haven't mentioned it to Remi.)

Dolphins & whales have been beaching themselves long before cell phone towers & microwaves. There are many theories, I haven't heard anything definitive yet. Except that Ken Balcomb and other cetologists believe that naval sonar tests and explosions in Puget Sound injure and kill whales: http://www.npr.org/2012/05/16/152820018/what-killed-orca-victoria-some-point-to-naval-tests

  4. Thanks, Bob--oh yeah, Remi's been in the midst of it for a long time!

  5. Where did we get the notion that we are the only sentient race on earth?

  6. Same way we decided we were the only ones who could communicate or make tools, I guess...(which were also wrong and wrong.)
